On this day the Rector and Churchwardens welcomed the Mayor and Mayoress of Northampton, Councillors, the Lord Lieutenant of
Northamptonshire and representatives of the County to this Annual Service. Also in attendance were Judges of the Crown Court,
the County Court and the Family Court, the Magistracy, and members of the Bar.
The Office of High sheriff is at least one thousand years old and is the oldest secular office under the crown.
The High Sheriff remains the sovereign's representative in the County for all matters relating to the Judiciary and
the maintenance of law and order. The Office is independent and non-political, which enables the holder to bring
together a wide variety of individuals and office holders.
