Omnes Sancti in the Bag
9th July 2010

Over the past three days the choirs have been recording their next CD, OMNES SANCTI!, at St Mary’s Church in Wellingborough with Regent Records. The recording features thirteen of the choir’s most recent commissions:

  • Missa ‘Omnes Sancti’ Malcolm Archer

  • O praise God in his holiness David Bednall

  • Two Benediction Hymn Norman Caplin

  • O living bread Ian Colson

  • The All Saints’ Service (Evening Canticles) Barry Ferguson

  • O soft self-wounding Pelican! Stephen Hough

  • Bread of the world in mercy broken John Hoyle

  • May the road rise up to meet you Russell Jackson

  • Jubilate Deo in E Gordon Lawson

  • Ave Maria James MacMillan

  • Dominus illuminatio mea Matthew Martin

  • Little Mass of All Saints Adrian Self

  • Drop, drop, slow tears Robert Walker

The recording followed three days of recording by the Northampton Bach Choir, who are also conducted by our Director of Music, Lee Dunleavy. The choirs to share recording costs and logistical arrangements, and because the Bach Choir required the use of a larger organ than the Church’s own IIP 22 Hill Organ, there was a Copeman Hart IIIP 58 also available. This organ was installed at the West end of the Church enabling the first recording of Malcolm Archer’s Missa ‘Omnes Sancti’ with its original accompaniment of two antiphonal organs. The

choirs were accompanied by former Organ  Scholar, Richard Pinel, who was joined by another former Organ Scholar, Stephen Meakins, for Archer’s Mass.

OMNES SANCTI! will be launched after the 6:00pm Solemn Mass and Procession for the Patronal Festival on All Saints’ Day, 1 November, where the choirs will sing Archer’s Mass and give the first performance at All Saints of their 2009 commission from James MacMillan, ‘Ave Maria’.
