Recitals from New to Old
19th July 2012

The 2011/12 series of Lunchtime Live! recitals concluded today with a masterful double-organ, double-player recital of improvisations and works by the two performers, Malcolm Archer and David Bednall. The recital concluded with a stunning duelling organ improvisation based on Purcell’s Rondeau from Abdelazar. Earlier in the season a stream of improvisers had worked their arts on the French, Israeli and Russian National Anthems, as well as the theme of Roger Quilter’s anthem, Non nobis, Domine, sung at the last London Olympics. We offer thanks to Nigel Allcoat, Malcolm Archer, David Bednall, Gerard Brooks, David Cowen, John Pryer, for performing in our season, and special thanks to Ronny Krippner for both performing in the season, and convening our performers.

The next organ recital at All Saints is on Thursday 6 September at 1:10pm when the Director of Music, Lee Dunleavy, will perform a programme of music by Purcell and his contemporaries, as part of our Heritage Open Day activities. Also taking place during that time will be a Civic Matins on Saturday 8 September at 10:00am when the Boys and Men will perform Haydn’s Te Deum in C, and a Festival of Northamptonshire Hymns on Saturday 8 September at 4:00pm, sung by the Girls and Men.

Organ recitals continue on a monthly basis from September onwards, so do mark in your diaries 4 October, 1 November and 6 December 2012. All at 1:10pm and admission is free, with a retiring collection.
